If you’re looking for free, try Spybot. It also will have regular weekly updates for you. It works pretty good.
But if you’re planning on buying, then try Webroot Spy Sweeper. That’s one of the best.

For free stuff, go to MajorGeeks.com, click on left side on anti-spyware. Once you get the new screen, click on top at “License”, and it’ll rearrange the whole selection so that the freeware stuff is on top, and the shareware is on bottom.

What I’ve done, is get all free stuff. Choose only ONE to continually protect you, such as Spybot. Then have a couple others (like Spyware Terminator, A-Squared, AVG, etc) also installed, but NOT to start up when you turn on computer. If you do, the different programs may fight each other.
But then, once a week, a month, whatever you feel is good, UNPLUG from the internet, and run ALL the cleaner programs. That way, you clean without being reinfected from internet. Then when thru, turn off the extra programs, and use the main one as you surf the web again.
    Works for me.

But if you’re looking at MajorGeeks, be careful…some of them do offer installing a toolbar along with the antispyware program. Usually, when you first install a program, it should offer you the chance to NOT install the toolbar.

To get rid of the toolbar, you’ll have to click on “my computer”, then go into C: drive, and then inspect where it says program and files, and those files to delete the toolbar.

But if you’re not sure or haven’t done it, DON’T try it. Find a friend to do it for you.

Zone Alarm…I’ve had it on my computer for 2 years and have not yet had a virus. I used to have viruses all the time before i had it and each of my computer’s lifespans were up to a year. you really need to know what you’re doing though because my dad has it too but he’s still getting viruses because he’s screwing with the program. or looking at things on the web that cause that sort of thing ;P
