Why is my computer so sloooooowwwww?

adware detection
Paul asked:

My laptop is new-ish, however in in the last 4 weeks or so it has slowed down. I have tried virus killers, I have tried hidden rootkit detection, I have tried adware killers and spyware killers trying to identify what is clogging up my system, but no joy. Any suggestions?

Are you running alot of programs? Do you have enough RAM? Using Vista with AMD, and alot of programs? There can be alot it of situations but, mainly just try not to run so many programs, take it to a professional or get more ram.

Happens to them all. Install windows in a seperate partition, so you can re install it now and again.

Try deleting all your cookies, if any.I think they are in your recycle bin.

Take it back to were you got it from as if its newish there should be a 12 months warranty and they may look at it for you (I got my laptop from PC World and when mine broke they sent it away for me and got me a new one in 3 weeks)

U might have a lot of programs that automatically startup when u open the computer and that really slows it down. Some of them show up on ur rightdown side of ur screen where the time is. Try to change their settings so that they need ur permission to start.

Disk cleanup and defrag this should do it. If it start up slow then do start-> run -> msconfig-> startup -> disable all-> then restart and this should help.

Have you gone into msconfig and checked to see if you have tons of programs beginning on start up? I had the same situation as you and couldn’t figure out why. Turns out tons of stuff was starting on start up. I went into msconfig and did a diagnositc start up – basically took out all the extras I didn’t need, like yahoo messenger, games, camera editing programs, etc. It made a big difference. Just be sure you know what to take out and what to leave. :-) My bf is a computer guy and he walked me through it. Hope this helps and good luck!

In the start menu, got to run and type msconfig. On the tabs you will see a start tab . Disable all. this will stop any unnecessary programs from running in the background. It should help.

it is because you use to many symbols that you dont need like sloooowwwwwww, also you may be using Norton as an antivirus, which is installing a virus in its self.

Have you tried deleting the cookies, defrag the hardrive uninstalling any unused programs, taking programs off at start up. Have you tried any of the Trojan horse programs, a Trojan will severely slow down your system. If you have been playing online games all the Java can crap up the system as well try C cleaner.
    Good luck

easy this one click all programs then accessories then disk cleanup then wait a box will appear make sure all the smaller boxes are ticked click delete all
    job done
then go to internet options delete browsing history, cookies, passwords, form information and all internet explorer add ons
next goto power options and set the laptop to high performance this will affect battery life but will speed it up
then when all this is done run an anti virus scan and make sure you are not connected to the internet while doing this
